5th GRADE HOMEROOM
MRS. JENNIFER MULLEN
Homeroom Subjects:
Religion
5th Grade Religion focuses on the Sacraments. The
Blest Are We religious program was developed according
to the four pillars or parts of the Catechism of
the Catholic Church– Believe, Worship, Live, and
Pray.
Spelling
Students will start off every morning working to improve
their spelling skills by proofreading and focusing
on weekly skills. Grades for spelling will be based on
homework and test grades. There will not be a weekly
list of words. The children will keep track of the words
they misspell on a "Words to Learn" list.
Vocabulary
Students have a Vocabulary Workshop book that contains
16 units. Each unit has 12 words to learn and 4
homework pages to go along with these words. Because
this is new to fifth graders, we will do the first
couple units together. After that the children do most
of the work independently. Grades will be figured
from their homework and test scores.
Literature
This year's literature will be a combination of our basil
reader and literature sets. We will be reading two novels
this year:
On My Honor and Bud, Not Buddy
Both of these books are testable and can count towards
reading counts goals.
Grades will be based on homework, quizzes/tests,
Reading Counts point goal, and Reading Counts average
percent correct.
